Joint AAHSL/Publisher Liaison Task Force

Established: August 2007 by President Elaine Martin
Charge: Establish an AAHSL Board strategy to promote direct ongoing dialog and examination
of issues of joint concern and importance to AAHSL and scientific-technical-medical (STM)
publishers, and to develop and promote a presence for AAHSL among STM publishers.
Background Statement: AAHSL Scholarly Communications Committee will continue to
provide important communication, education, liaison, and tracking services for activities and
issues in scholarly communication. The Committee will continue to be the AAHSL “go to”
committee for recommendations to the Board regarding scholarly communication issues,
development of education opportunities, and AAHSL liaison to the Open Access Working Group (OAWG, SPARC), Joint Legislative Task Force, etc.
Deliverables:
- Recommend an effective and sustainable monitoring strategy which a) identifies issues and trends of joint concern for AAHSL and STM publishers; and, b) prioritizes issues for
further research through an ongoing AAHSL/publisher dialog.
- Recommend an implementation plan to establish a forum for direct ongoing dialog with
STM publishers focused on issues of joint concern.
- Plan and evaluate a pilot project to test feasibility of AAHSL/Publisher forum for ongoing and direct dialog.
